The LS800 is the first full-function ultra-portable Tablet PC:
Design: The sleek industrial design is the smallest and lightest Tablet PC available that is capable of running the Microsoft Windows XP Tablet Edition operating system.
Performance: Upwards of 20% faster than the M1400, the LS800 design is based on Intel’s Sonoma system architecture, including the latest Intel Mobile Pentium M low-voltage processor or the latest Mobile Intel Celeron M ultra-low-voltage processor, the latest 915GMS Express Chipset, and the latest 400MHz DDRII memory.
Battery Life: The LS800 provides approximately three hours of battery life using state-of-the-art Lithium Ion Battery technology. The standard battery pack for the LS800 is very compact, making it easy to carry a spare battery for users that require extended operation away from a power outlet. Warm-swap capability allows your customer to change batteries in seconds without the need to re-boot the system.
Security: In addition to an integrated Fingerprint Reader, the LS800 offers an integrated Trusted Platform Module (TPM). TPM is an actual hardware chip on the Tablet PC used to authenticate the device and strengthen existing security. To make security even easier to implement, the Motion Dashboard now includes easy links to set-up instructions for using the Softex OmniPass Fingerprint Reader and Infineon TPM security applications.
Reliability: Motion’s inherently durable “pure slate” design is now even lighter due to the sturdy carbon fiber product housing. Top off the absence of moving parts such as an embedded keyboard, a rotating hinge, or an LCD housing latch (typical mechanical risk points on non-slate devices) with the more reliable 1.8” HDD selected to reduce the risk of shock induced failures by half, and the LS800 is equipped to handle the rigors of even the toughest environments.
Speak Anywhere™: The LS800 continues to incorporate Motion’s own Speak Anywhere™ technology. Dual directional microphones the ability to configure the range of audio acceptance, suppress background noise, and provide acoustic echo cancellation.
Connectivity: In addition to an integrated 802.11 connection and integrated Bluetooth which is provided at no additional cost, the LS800 also offers Ethernet support as well as an IrDA port for connecting to a truly broad array of wireless networks and peripheral devices.
Expansion: The LS800 includes a Secure Digital (SD) slot for connecting a removable SD memory card.
Video out: The LS800 has a VGA port for connecting to external monitors and digital projectors. The LS800 will support external monitor/projector resolutions of up to 1600 X 1200 pixels.
Audio playback: The LS800 has an integrated speaker to support multimedia sales presentations, training module delivery and other types of audio-dependent media usage such as watching movies or listening to music.
The LS800 is 8.94” x 6.69” x 0.87” and weighs just 2.2 lbs (1KG), making it the smallest, lightest full powered tablet PC available. The LS800 can be stowed in a purse, the outside pocket of a briefcase, or even a lab coat pocket.
Using the LS800 Bump case, the tablet is readily accessible when needed, but also allows rapid transition to a “hands-free” mode for mission critical operations.
The LS800 Tablet PC incorporates leading-edge technologies such as:
The LS800 uses Intel’s fastest Ultra Low Voltage processor - Intel® Pentium® M Processor ULV 753 (1.2GHz)
Mobile Intel® 915GMS Express Chipset.
The 915GMS chipset offers a vast improvement in video performance (41% improvement in 3DMark score in one Intel benchmark analysis) and is equipped to support Microsoft’s Longhorn operating system when it launches in the future.
The 915GMS chipset was designed to support the new Sonoma architecture and a higher-performance memory interface, while the 855GME chipset was designed at the time that the previous-generation Dothan CPU architecture was introduced. The newer 915GMS chipset supports the new faster 400MHz DDRII memory available on the LS800, while the older 855GME chipset supports the previous-generation 333MHz DDR memory.
The 915GMS chipset includes the Intel® GMA 900 Integrated Graphics controller with 128MB of video RAM, whereas the 855GME uses the Intel Direct AGP Integrated Graphics controller which includes only 64MB of video RAM.
DDRII is the latest memory architecture that delivers improved system performance, higher data bandwidths, lower latency and better power consumption for mobile devices.
The LS800 supports up to 1GB of RAM. The LS800 has a single memory slot, so total system memory must reside in a single memory module. The compact size of the LS800 makes it difficult to access the memory slot outside of the factory. Customers that are not Motion authorized self-maintainers should not change the memory module or the warranty will be voided.

The LS800 supports up to 1600 X 1200 pixel external monitor resolution.
The LS800 offers an integrated Fingerprint Reader for secure user authentication, with the added benefit of global password management. Furthermore, the LS800 offers a new security feature – a Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 1.1, which offers the following benefits:
In addition, the system offers enhanced BIOS-level security with pre-boot authentication, a universal lock slot for physical asset protection, and a Motion Security Center software panel that grants quick access to the Motion OmniPass software for configuring the Fingerprint Reader and to the Infineon software for configuring the TPM.

While the 4-way directional control button on the exterior of the system continues to allow users to move the cursor up, down, left and right, the new scrolling capability of the Fingerprint Reader allows users to run the pad of their finger over the Fingerprint Reader either horizontally or vertically to accomplish scrolling when a scrollbar is present in a window. The Fingerprint Reader automatically switches to scroll mode when a scrollbar is present and when the system is not engaged in an authentication task.
Since Bluetooth and IrDA are the preferred means for synchronizing one’s Tablet PC with other devices, or for connecting to peripherals such as printers, Motion now offers both connectivity options on the LS800.
Up to 4MBps.
Up to 10MBps.
The USB 2.0 ports on the LS800 offer similar bandwidth to 1394 Firewire, and Motion’s external DVD/CD-RW drive operates over USB 2.0 so Firewire is no longer a required port for high-bandwidth connections to peripherals.
The Motion Accessory Port is a special, powered USB port found on the LS800 MobileDock. While all USB ports provide power, the USB specification for power does not deliver enough power for more power-hungry devices such as large hard disk drives and DVD optical drives. The Motion Accessory Port combines USB 2.0 connectivity with the additional power required to power accessory devices.
Today, the Motion Accessory Port, combined with the Motion Accessory Cable, can be used to power the Motion USB DVD/CD-RW optical drive. With this configuration, external AC power is not required for USB DVD/CD-RW optical drive for use on airplanes or other environments that do not have access to AC power.
Motion offers two hard drive capacities to meet storage needs: A 60GB HDD for storage-hungry users and a 30GB HDD for users with less storage-intensive requirements. The latest 1.8” hard-disk drive format not only contributes to the light weight and smaller size of the LS800, but also uses less power and greatly increases reliability by reducing the risk of shock-induced failures – addressing an important durability requirement for highly mobile users. Also, an optional Solid State Drive (SSD) provides enhanced durability, improved performance, and lower power consumption.
In addition to lower power consumption and weight, the most significant benefit of 1.8” drives to mobile users is the improved shock resistance, both during operation and non-operational transport. The 1.8” 30GB HDD delivers all storage gigabytes on a single disk platter, which rotates at 4200rpm, resulting in lower energy consumption in addition to quiet operation. (Note: The 60GB HDD is dual-platter.) To ensure high performance during data-intensive read and write cycles, the built-in controller also includes a 2MB data cache.
Hitachi and Toshiba are Motion’s suppliers of choice for the LS800’s HDDs.
