Publish Date:

September 22, 2008

Intended Product:

Motion Computing Tablet PC

Operating System:

Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005 and Microsoft Word

Issue / Question

Microsoft Word generates a Visual C++ Runtime Library error - “Assertion failed!”.

Solution / Answer

In 2005 this was caused by having the Dorland’s Electronic Medical Speller and Office Service Pack 2 installed.  This article was reviewed in late 2008 and may no longer be an issue.  If so, it can be addressed by performing the following steps:

1.    Download the attached DLL and save it to your desktop

2.    Rename the existing DLL

3.    Go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\PROOF

4.    Rename Mssp3spx.dll to Mssp3spx.old

5.    Copy the saved DLL from your desktop to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\PROOF
