AUSTIN, Texas, Aug. 27, 2002 - Motion Computing Inc., an innovator in ultra-mobile computing and wireless communications, today announced $6.5 million in Series A funding.
The funds are earmarked to build out Motion's sales and marketing organizations and support the scheduled Nov. 7 launch of its first product, an innovative, slate-like Tablet PC.
Motion's Tablet PC will leverage integrated wireless capabilities, the digital inking, handwriting recognition and voice capabilities of the Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition operating system, Intel's latest low-power mobile microprocessor and a 12.1-inch display optimized for pen-based input that is as natural as using pencil and paper.
Led by Compal Electronics of Taiwan -- Motion's strategic design and manufacturing partner and the world's largest contract manufacturer of notebook computers -- the investment group also includes institutional investor G51 Capital of Austin and the company's founders.
Motion also announced that Martin Wong, senior vice president of Compal's PC sales division, and Rudy Garza, general partner of G51 Capital, would join its board of directors.
"We're confident that we have the product design, strategic partnerships and management team to be successful, and we're gratified to have demonstrated our competitive advantages to secure an initial round of funding in such a tough investment climate," said Rob Repass, CFO of Motion Computing.
