AUSTIN, Texas, Dec. 5, 2005 – Motion Computing® today announced the appointment of Michael D. Johnson as senior vice president of product development.

In his role, Johnson is responsible for Motion’s worldwide product development, including design quality and team management, hardware and software integration, and delivery to manufacturing.

I look forward to continuing this development approach at Motion to bring additional innovative products to market.”

Johnson joins Motion from Apple Computer where he spent seventeen years in product development. Over that time, he has led teams in the creation of both mobile and desktop products, managed key supplier relationships and served on the task force of several key Apple initiatives. In his most recent role at Apple, Johnson was the director of consumer desktop products, which focused on the design and development of the iMac and Mac Mini product lines. Johnson also was instrumental in leading the project to migrate the Mac platform from PowerPC processors to Intel processors.

Earlier in his career, Johnson was instrumental in the design of Atari’s line of personal computers. Johnson received his bachelor’s in electronic engineering from California Polytechnic State University.

Motion made two important hires in the last year to round out its executive team. Valerie Walden is Motion’s senior vice president of marketing. Johnson’s appointment completes the expansion of Motion’s executive team.

Johnson’s role previously was held by John Doherty, one of Motion’s founders. Doherty now is Motion’s vice president of advanced product development. In that role, he will lead the exploration of future technology trends to identify areas in which Motion can continue to drive industry “firsts” and continue its technology leadership, and will consolidate the functions previously managed by Motion founder David Altounian’s CTO office. Altounian remains on Motion’s board of directors, patent committee, technology advisory board and product strategy steering group.
