PC Industry Veterans Launch Motion Computing Inc.

New Company Targets Natural Computing, Ultimate Mobility; First Product at Vanguard of Tablet PC Initiative

AUSTIN, Texas, May 20, 2002 - A group of PC industry veterans today formally took the wraps off Motion Computing Inc., a company created to make computers more natural to use and to provide ultimate mobility for full-function computing.

The founding team, which includes high-level experience from Dell, Apple, Compaq and Fujitsu, has the full spectrum of skills and industry relationships required to bring world-class mobile products to market.

Motion Computing's first product, a sleek, slate-like Tablet PC usable while standing or walking around, is scheduled for availability later this year as part of a broad industry initiative to create the most capable mobile computing devices ever made. Tablet PCs will do everything current notebooks can do but with the advent of new industry standard hardware -- plus software spearheaded by Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition -- the new product also will feature the latest advances in the more natural realm of pen- and speech-based input.

The emergence of new electronic ink, handwriting recognition and voice capabilities are significant because they reduce the number of steps required to capture and exchange information. In addition, the new product category will offer long battery life, thin ergonomic designs, light weight, high-resolution displays and built-in wireless communications capability.

Motion engineers already have developed a working prototype. It integrates the latest in mobile computing technologies with a unique industrial design made possible by the company's extensive experience in human factors engineering. Motion will preview its initial offering next month on a non-disclosure basis to selected prospects, industry analysts and news media attending the TechX New York trade show.

The company has identified several prime vertical markets, including healthcare, field sales and engineering, and education.

"Our business plan is grounded in a wealth of relevant industry experience," said Motion CEO Scott Eckert, whose career at Dell included being general manager of several international operations and founder and head of the PC maker's phenomenally successful Internet operations. "We also have strong alliances, including a co-development agreement with Microsoft, and world-class designs that leverage technologies that are now mature enough to take mainstream computing to the next level of mobility and ease of use."

Founded in August 2001 and originally incorporated as PAD Products Inc., Motion Computing's sole mission is to develop, manufacture, market and support a family of innovative computing and communications products. Motion products are aimed at users who need more simplicity and portability than their current notebooks.
