Position: Senior Mechanical Engineer/Product Designer
Reporting to: Chief of Product Design
Summary
Responsible for mechanical design of industry-leading tablets and peripherals
Essential Job Functions:
- Work with Development Manager & Core Team to understand product requirements and establish & document technical requirements.
- With internal & external teams, create initial design concepts for tablet and peripherals.
- Work with the internal and ODM teams to drive the selection of key components and processes.
- Drive mechanical component selection.
- Create initial mechanical architecture and layout.
- Create initial designs for key elements of the architecture.
- Work with ODM suppliers implementing tablet & peripheral products to ensure smooth transition of the architecture to the ODM design team.
- Oversee project execution per plan.
- Responsible for ensuring that product is thoroughly documented.
Qualifications and Experience
Experience and Education Requirements:
- BS in Mechanical Engineering or Product Design.
- 6 years of related experience or, 4 years related experience with an MS in Mechanical Engineering or Product Design.
- Mechanical engineering experience working with a broad range of materials including plastic, die castings and sheet metal.
- Experience with thermal management methods in electronic products.
- Experience with miniature connector/interconnect methods.
- Experience with EMI suppression techniques.
- Technical understanding and experience with various methods of tooling.
- Demonstrated experience in creative problem solving on electro-mechanical issues.
- Experience with and thorough knowledge of mechanical tolerance analysis.
- Ability to rapidly come up to speed on the design requirements of new technologies & production processes.
- Outstanding Pro/E (or other 3D solid modeling system) expertise.
- Solid understanding of electro-mechanical product development processes.
- Experience in supporting aggressive Industrial Design objectives.
- Strong written and verbal communications skills.
- Strong inter-personal and teamwork skills.
- Experience with and ability to work effectively with Far East suppliers.
- Ability to work in a fast paced, multi-disciplined environment.
- Ability to handle multiple programs and prioritize effectively.
- Experience with densely packed electromechanical products (for example notebooks, tablets, projectors, etc.) preferred.
- Mechanical design experience in the IT or consumer electronics industry preferred.
- Position requires ~15% travel & weekly after-hours conference calls.
