Joel French serves as vice president of Motion Computing, Inc. and general manager of its Healthcare Business Group, bringing more than 20 years experience in clinical informatics, financial management, healthcare business operations and enterprise sales management. In this capacity he is responsible for Motion’s healthcare strategy, Healthcare Business Group P&L, relationships with its largest health industry clients and partners as well as leading its team of clinicians, researchers, workflow experts and project managers.
Prior to joining Motion, Mr. French was founder and managing director of Nephalios Group, LLC, a management consultancy serving executives of various technology, service and healthcare companies. He was previously corporate vice president of strategic development of Superior Consultant Holdings Corporation, a leading publicly traded management consulting and IT outsourcing firm serving health enterprises internationally. Mr. French was a key member of the executive team responsible for generating Superior’s strong organic and non-organic growth as well as its public equity capitalization, prior to its sale to Affiliated Computer Services. He was also founder, president & CEO of ComTrust, LLC, a wholly owned Superior subsidiary providing managed authentication and policy services to many of the largest commercial health enterprises in the United States as well as the Military Health Services. Before that French served in a number of executive capacities with Sentient Systems, Inc., a rapidly growing custom software development and systems integration firm, prior to its acquisition by Daou Systems, Inc.
Mr. French has advised hundreds of hospitals, health plans, pharmaceutical, physician clinics, private equity funds and technology firms on matters of business strategy, operational and financial performance improvements as well as appropriate technology integration. He has led or participating in consummating sales and financial transactions valued at approximately $9 billion, including public and private equity financings, the acquisition and operational integration of thirteen companies and the sale of five companies either as principal, owner or advisor.
He has been an active contributor to the growing body of health industry knowledge as a widely published author and conference faculty, speaking dozens of times annually at healthcare trade conferences, management retreats, client board meeting and other events. Mr. French holds an appointment as adjunct professor of the Masters in Health Administration program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and has served as chairman of the Motion Computing Health & Life Sciences Advisory Board since its inception in 2003. Mr. French is an affiliate of The American College of Healthcare Executives and a member of ACHE’s CEO Circle Forum. He received a BA in Economics from Pacific Lutheran University.
